Synopsis

Private lessons focus on the process and understanding of creating an honest character while building a Character of Courage in the life of the actor. Private lessons build up the individual actor and help them to choose roles and materials as well as to set expectations according to their desired level of the craft.

Lessons are built to be once a week over 10 week segments called Seasons. At the end of each Season the student will have at least two new, polished, audition pieces, more confidence in themselves and their presentation skills, as well as a progress report – including next step advice if they choose to pursue their acting further.

      Structure of Private Lessons

      • One-hour classes (once a week) broken into three, student-driven segments:
        • Techniques
        • Current Material (play or scene in which they are currently involved)
        • Showcase Material (monologue or song that represents them well)
      • Time is primarily focused on the actor’s process of interpreting given material
        • Instruction is tailored to the student based on ability and desired skills
        • The first few lessons will be used to identify types and styles at which the student excels and to guide them in finding appropriate pieces to showcase their skill
      • Location can vary based on availability and/or desire
      • Private instruction is available for acting, singing, or both

      Lesson Content

      While much of the content per lesson will be driven by the desires of the student there are many options for intentional work during these lessons, including:

      • Workshopping a role in a current production
      • Building a repertoire to showcase ability (Audition Portfolio)
      • Developing a new style, such as comedy, character roles, or accents
      • The logistics of auditioning
      • Stagepresence 
      • Stage voice
      • Acting a song

      Cost: $79.00 per session

      The following forms will need to be completed before the first lesson. The informational form is to be filled out once before begining the very first lesson with Characters of Courage. The contract, however, is based on the season in which the lessons are beging taken, so it will be completed at the beginning of each 10-week season.
